Life is like a box of chocolates.... and my kids ate all mine! (it's a competitive thing)

Mama Kat's weekly post challenge has me revisiting an old post so...

This  is a re-post from 4 years ago...almost to the day! And it still applies...not sure if that makes me seem like a steady, reliable sort or if it's kind of sad...you can decide.

Original post  date 2/18/2010

Curling?
Curling.
Curling!

Yes. I love curling!
It's a strange sport. Sort of a cross between shuffle board and bowling? With some Chess or Backgammon-like strategy thrown in.
Oh yeah. It's all done on a sheet of ice. That they clean with a brush?

Sounds weird? It is. A little.
But, it's also addicting. A lot.

So much so, that I set aside things like vacuuming, doing dishes and sorting through the pile of mail that was held at the post office until the mail lady could access our mailbox after the Blizzard thaw.

I found that folding laundry while watching is possible.
By this I mean running to the basement laundry room to throw a load in during the commercials.
Anything that can be done in 2 minutes or less is do-able.

Don't want to miss a single Stone being thrown down that sheet of ice...

It's ridiculous is what it is. But I can't help myself.

I know I am competitive, but Curling?

Yes, Curling.

It's a quietly, nail-bitingly tense, and often exhilarating, game of strategy.

It's an awful lot like life that way.

Throwing stones, sliding along the ice, trying to guide their path with a broom, hoping to make the better choices for the best possible outcome...

Sounds a lot like MY life anyway!

Another Day Another Dollar...

Or in this economy it's more likely to be a quarter.

It's that time of year. Time to clear out the old and bring in the new... er, no, that's not right.
It's time to clear out the cobwebs and dust, move the furniture to see exactly what the kids have hidden underneath, clean out closets and cabinets filled with winter clothes and coats and shoes that no longer fit anyone in my household.
That's what time it is.
Once the floors are clean and the corners of the rooms are cobweb free it's much easier to settle into the routine of winter.
Days spent indoors, instead of out, watching all those shows I DVR because I can't seem to stay awake past sundown...
Days spent baking cookies for the holidays and searching out recipes for new things to make for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
Days spent making gifts for family and friends... crocheting and knitting while watching all those DVR'd shows or Hallmark Countdown to Christmas movies.

I love this time of year.
Not only do I get to de-clutter and clean, but I get to relax and enjoy being home.
Football and Soccer season have finally ended. Not that I don't love them as much as TeenBoy, BratChild and SIX do, but they've been going since mid-summer and quite frankly, five months of practices and games and cleaning uniforms and cleats... there is a limit to what a BusyMom wants to do.
Now we can sit down to dinner, together, instead of eating on the run on the way to some ball practice or another.
Now I can make dinners that don't have to be portable or pre-fab frozen deals that can be microwaved in a snap.

Yes, now I can do all of these things...
but will I?
All?
Probably not.

Maybe I'll change MY name.... Just call me Lady D!

I wonder about really odd things sometimes.

Like basketball.
Well, not really basketball, but the team names.

The other night the Boston Celtics were playing the Orlando Magic.
The whole time I all I could think of was that if they are really from BOSTON...

Hello? Irish people unite...

They would be called the Celtics- with a K sound, not the Celtics with an S sound.
I mean, seriously, have you ever heard anyone talk about the Selts and the Picts and the Druids of Ireland?

Of course you haven't!

That then got me thinking about the names of other sports teams... or rather the new names of teams.

Like the Bullets had to change to the the Wizards because Wizards are not deadly?
Has NO ONE seen HARRY POTTER?

I mean that Voldemort guy kills people just by THINKING A WORD!
Really, Wizards are pretty scary if you think about it!

Then there are the Anaheim Ducks.
Oooo, just the thought of going up against a flock of Ducks strikes fear into the hearts of men... yeah, right.

And what's with the stadium and arena names changing too?

The Capital Center is now The Verizon Center. NO Verizons play there!
And Ravens Stadium is the M&T Bank Stadium. What is up with that?

Just like all the championship and bowl games seem to be called by the sponsoring products... The Bud Light Classic? The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl? The Kemper Open(these are not insurance agents playing a friendly round!) The Winston Cup... does the winner's cup come filled with cigarettes?

Why not call a thing a thing; or in this case name an event for someone great in that sport or for the team whose home field it is?

And why worry about the negative connotation of names like the Bullets, Redskins, Oilers, Braves...

I mean if you're going to go crazy about a bad name...

For crying out loud, do something about those Gamecocks!

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a... Basketball?

March Madness starts today.

At least that's the word on the TV and internet.

What exactly is March Madness?

Is it like Mad Cow Disease?
Do you foam at the mouth with the onset of Spring-like weather?

Or, is it like being Love Sick?
Does one wander through the month of March with a silly grin on their face and a song on their lips?

No, it's like neither of these, is it?

It's all about Basketball!

What's up with that? I love sports, but seriously.

SERIOUSLY?

Basketball?

Yep. Basketball.

Guess everyone now knows what I won't be watching...
